A quick glance over the automotive brand of the year list, included inZeta Interactive's 2010 Buzz Awards, hints that car buyers in the U.S. display a significant interest in autos that offer the most"bang for your buck."This year's"most buzzed"automotive list, which include seven vehicles that did not appear last year, is dominated by economical cars. Luxury brands, includingMercedes-BenzandLexus, have been replaced by vehicles fromHyundaiandVolkswagen.
Topping the list is theHyundai Elantracompact sedan and hitting the charts at number four is another economical vehicle from the Korean automaker; theAccent. Hyundai was one of only two brands to have a pair of vehicles make it into the top ten. TheHonda Accordranked second and the automaker's compactCiviccame in ninth. Surprisingly, only one light truck made Zeta's list; theKia Sorento.
Zeta Interactive chief executive officer, Al DiGuido, who recently spoke withWards Auto, suggests that frugality drives many buying decisions in the U.S.:
Zeta Interactive tracks mentions on blogs and on social-media websites such as Facebook to compile its2010 Buzz Awardlists.Whether you're talking about consumer products, consumer electronics, travel or auto, it seems like that's the common theme. People are still not thinking that we're out of the woods. They're looking to get price/value. We think the trend's going to continue.
